We do not collect any other contact information from your child. Your information will not be further distributed to third parties.

Upon sign up, at the “enter user name" prompt, students who are age 13 or younger are instructed not to use their real name, but rather to choose a “Martian nickname" when entering their user name and password. When signing up to “Be A Martian," we encourage you to work with your child to select a username that does not identify your child by name. We also encourage you to remind your child of safe internet practices, such as never giving out personal information to strangers.

The username and password on this site are collected solely for the purpose of allowing students to be able to earn game points associated with their activities. If you would prefer your child to be able to participate without earning points, please have them sign in with a “Tourist Visa," which does not require any information to be submitted.

The website does not require or encourage children of any age to disclose personal information over and above what is reasonably necessary to participate in the “Be A Martian" experience.

Passive Data Collection

For all participants, data collected passively will be IP addresses of Website visitors and game points earned through a “Reputation System" for the science-related activities they complete as a record of their achievements.

USE OF PERSONAL DATA: NASA/JPL-Caltech will not use submitted personal information for purposes other than those for which the information was collected, without asking for permission.

Specifically, actively and passively collected data will primarily be used to enable the user to participate, using a recognition system that awards points for user accomplishments. Data may also be used in the following ways:
